Zell Miller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zell Miller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: In 1991, Miller endorsed Gov. Bill Clinton of Arkansas for President of the United States. Miller gave the keynote speech at the 1992 Democratic National Convention at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In two oft-recalled lines, Miller said that President George H. W. Bush "just doesn't get it," and he remarked of a statement by Vice President Dan Quayle:
"I know what Dan Quayle means when he says it's best for children to have two parents. You bet it is! And it would be nice for them to have trust funds, too. We can't all be born rich and handsome and lucky. And that's why we have a Democratic Party. My family would still be isolated and destitute if we had not had F.D.R.'s Democratic brand of government. I made it because Franklin Delano Roosevelt energized this nation. I made it because Harry Truman fought for working families like mine. I made it because John Kennedy's rising tide lifted even our tiny boat. I made it because Lyndon Johnson showed America that people who were born poor didn't have to die poor. And I made it because a man with whom I served in the Georgia Senate, a man named Jimmy Carter, brought honesty and decency and integrity to public service."
Upon leaving the Governor's office in January 1999, Miller accepted teaching positions at Young Harris College, Emory University, and the University of Georgia. He was a visiting professor at all three institutions when he was appointed to the U.S. Senate.

Throughout Zell Miller's career as a U.S. Senator he showed increasing support for Republicans and increasing criticism of Democrats, leading some to question whether his fellow Democrats in the Senate had given him a lukewarm reception. However, given his beginnings as a conservative southern Democrat, it is likely he found his views drastically different from the more liberal ideology of the national party.

During 2001 and 2002, when liberal Republican senators from New England like James Jeffords and Lincoln Chafee threatened to (and in Jeffords' case, did) leave their party over ideological disputes, rumors abounded that Miller would become a Republican in order to return control of the Senate to that party. These rumors were dispelled with Miller saying, "I'll be a Democrat 'til the day I die."

In 2004, he cosponsored the Federal Marriage Amendment to the United States Constitution. If it had been ratified, it would have declared that marriage in the United States only consists of the union of a man and a woman, and would have prohibited state and the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages and same-sex domestic partnerships.

MARY CHENEY

***

Mary Claire Cheney (born March 14, 1969) is the second daughter of Dick Cheney, the former Vice President of the United States, and his wife, Lynne Cheney. She is openly lesbian, has voiced support for same-sex marriage, and has been credited with encouraging her father to support same-sex marriage.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Cheney

2000 Presidential campaign

In 2000, the Bush-Cheney Presidential campaign freely discussed Elizabeth Cheney's marriage and children, but they treated Mary Cheney's private life as off-limits. Nevertheless, Cheney's sexual orientation was publicly known, and some considered her presence during the campaign as bolstering, providing the Republican ticket with a "compassionate conservative" image. During an interview with Lynne Cheney, Cokie Roberts brought up the topic of Mary Cheney's having declared herself a lesbian. Mrs. Cheney responded by stating that "Mary has never declared such a thing," and criticized Roberts and the media for their interest in the story.

In 2004, public attention focused again on Cheney's sexuality when the Bush administration supported the Federal Marriage Amendment, a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution that would limit marriage to heterosexual couples and also ban civil unions and domestic partnership benefits. Cheney did not publicly express her opinion of the amendment at the time. In her 2006 autobiography Now It's My Turn, Cheney stated her opposition to the amendment. However, at the time, she remained silent to support Bush's re-election bid.

2004 Presidential re-election campaign

During the 2004 Presidential re-election campaign for the Bush-Cheney administration during which Cheney served as her father's director of vice presidential operations, the subject of her sexual orientation arose again.
Both Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry and vice-presidential candidate John Edwards mentioned and praised Cheney's openness with regard to her sexual orientation when questioned regarding gay issues. Some commentators viewed these remarks as a cynical appeal to residual homophobia among blue-collar voters in key swing states.[10]
The 2004 presidential election debates included mentions of the same-sex marriage debate and referred, initially indirectly, to Cheney.
During the Cheney-Edwards Vice-Presidential Debate, moderator Gwen Ifill asked a question to the Vice President in which his daughter was indirectly mentioned:
I want to read something you said four years ago at this very setting: ‘Freedom means freedom for everybody.’ You said it again recently when you were asked about legalizing same-sex unions. And you used your family's experience as a context for your remarks. Can you describe then your administration's support for a constitutional ban on same-sex unions?[11]
Dick Cheney reiterated his position of four years prior, stating the issue should be left to the states but that he supports the Bush administration. He did not mention his family nor his daughter in his immediate response to the question. In response, Edwards said:
I think the vice president and his wife love their daughter. I think they love her very much. And you can't have anything but respect for the fact that they're willing to talk about the fact that they have a gay daughter, the fact that they embrace her. It's a wonderful thing. And there are millions of parents like that who love their children, who want their children to be happy.
Although he was given 90 seconds to respond to Edwards' comments, Dick Cheney responded succinctly, “Well, Gwen, let me simply thank the senator for the kind words he said about my family and our daughter. I appreciate that very much.” Ms. Ifill followed up: “That's it?” The vice president replied, "That's it," effectively ending the discussion of his daughter's sexual orientation.[11] At the end of the debate, Mary Cheney appeared on the podium with her partner and the rest of the family.
During the third and final Bush-Kerry Presidential Debate, moderator Bob Schieffer asked, “Do you believe homosexuality is a choice?” John Kerry replied, "If you were to talk to Dick Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that she's being who she was, she's being who she was born as.”[12] This prompted an angry response from Dick Cheney, who stated, “You saw a man who will say and do anything in order to get elected. And I am not just speaking as a father here, though I am a pretty angry father.”

2006 interviews and autobiography

Mary Cheney left the public spotlight after the 2004 election until May 4, 2006, when she gave an interview with Diane Sawyer for ABC NewsPrimetime program.[14] Cheney did the interview to garner publicity for her autobiography titled Now It's My Turn. In the biography, Cheney discusses how she came out to her parents, noting her father's initial reaction: "You know, look, you're my daughter and I love you and I just want you to be happy." She also discusses her relationship with her partner, Heather Poe.
Gay rights advocates criticized her for waiting until after the 2004 election to voice her disapproval of George W. Bush's positions on gay rights. Noted gay columnist Dan Savage referred to her in his column as a "useless dyke." During Mary Cheney's May 19, 2006, appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, Letterman addressed some of the issues raised by the gay community. He questioned Cheney on why she waited two years after the 2004 election to speak publicly about gay marriage and rights. He also asked whether she had any input on her father's administration regarding gay issues. Cheney responded that she did not, and that it is not her job to do so

Romney, Scott Brown rebuke Akin's rape comments - CBS News

Romney, Scott Brown rebuke Akin's rape comments - CBS News: As for the scientific basis of Akin's comments, Dr. Isabel Blumberg, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, said to CBS Radio News, "There's absolutely no biological mechanism by which the female body prevents conception if she is raped during the time of ovulation."

This month, Akin won the state's Republican U.S. Senate primary by a comfortable margin. During the primary, Akin enhanced his standing with TV ads in which former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee praised him as "a courageous conservative" and "a Bible-based Christian" who "supports traditional marriage" and "defends the unborn."

Todd Akin Provokes Ire With ‘Legitimate Rape’ Comment - NYTimes.com

Todd Akin Provokes Ire With ‘Legitimate Rape’ Comment - NYTimes.com: Asked in an interview on a St. Louis television station about his views on abortion, Mr. Akin, a six-term member of Congress who is backed by Tea Party conservatives, made it clear that his opposition to the practice was nearly absolute, even in instances of rape.

“It seems to me, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare,” Mr. Akin said of pregnancies from rape. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something: I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child.”

Will data deception damage Emory?  | ajc.com: The scent of scandal has descended on an institution that is known for its integrity and is often mentioned alongside Atlanta pillars such as Coca-Cola, the Carter Center and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Emory's reputation as one of the world's leading research universities is so strong that former President Jimmy Carter and the Dalai Lama have come to teach there.

It is a favorite recipient among Atlanta's most vaunted charities such as the Woodruff Foundation. Founded in 1836, Emory's legacy continued its climb in recent years by acquiring papers from notable scholars, such as Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker.

But that distinction may be damaged after President James Wagner disclosed last week that Emory had for more than a decade intentionally misrepresented test data and other information about its students to publications that rank colleges. Students and parents turn to these rankings when deciding where to apply and attend college.

Britain wears backlash from unlikely 'club of the persecuted'

Britain wears backlash from unlikely 'club of the persecuted': Assange, a self-styled crusader for freedom, who delights in irritating the US, the rich and the powerful, claimed to be ''on a quest for revolutionary ideas that can change the world tomorrow''. The two laughed as they congratulated each other on their pariah status. Last week, however, the mutual appreciation morphed into something more significant, when Correa's government announced its decision to grant Assange asylum.

The authorities in Quito had been weighing up since June how to deal with their London lodger. Should they risk infuriating Britain, which under international law is compelled to extradite Assange to Sweden? Or should they seize the opportunity to rile ''arrogant'' Britain and, by association, their nemesis the US? The temptation was too great.

Jackalope - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jackalope - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: The jackalope is a mythical animal of North American folklore (a so-called "fearsome critter") described as a jackrabbit with antelope horns or deer antlers and sometimes a pheasant's tail (and often hind legs). The word "jackalope" is a portmanteau of "jackrabbit" and "antalope", an archaic spelling of "antelope". It is also known as Lepus temperamentalus.

Chris Stringer on the Origins and Rise of Modern Humans - NYTimes.com: Yes, the title is “Lone Survivors: How We Came to Be the Only Humans on Earth.” And this comes from the fact that if we went back 100,000 years, which is very recent, geologically speaking, there might have been as many as six different kinds of humans on the earth. All those other kinds have disappeared, and left us as the sole survivors.

James, son of Zebedee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saint James is the Patron Saint of Spain and according to legend, his remains are held in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia (Spain). The traditional pilgrimage to the grave of the saint, known as the "Way of St. James", has been the most popular pilgrimage for Western European Catholics from the early Middle Ages onwards.

James, son of Zebedee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: James is described as one of the first disciples to join Jesus. The Synoptic Gospels state that James and John were with their father by the seashore when Jesus called them to follow him. James was one of only three apostles whom Jesus selected to bear witness to his Transfiguration. James and his brother wanted to call down fire on a Samaritan town, but were rebuked by Jesus. The Acts of the Apostles 12:1 records that Herod had James executed by sword. He is the only apostle whose martyrdom is recorded in the New Testament. He is, thus, traditionally believed to be the first of the 12 apostles martyred for his faith.  Nixon suggests that this may have been caused by James' fiery temper, for which he and his brother earned the nickname Boanerges or "Sons of Thunder"

According to ancient local tradition, on 2 January of the year AD 40, the Virgin Mary appeared to James on the bank of the Ebro River at Caesaraugusta, while he was preaching the Gospel in Iberia. She appeared upon a pillar, Nuestra Señora del Pilar, and that pillar is conserved and venerated within the present Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, in Zaragoza, Spain. Following that apparition, St James returned to Judea, where he was beheaded by King Herod Agrippa I in the year 44.

The 12th-century Historia Compostellana commissioned by bishop Diego Gelmírez provides a summary of the legend of St James as it was believed at Compostela. Two propositions are central to it: first, that St James preached the gospel in Iberia as well as in the Holy Land; second, that after his martyrdom at the hands of Herod Agrippa I his disciples carried his body by sea to Iberia, where they landed at Padrón on the coast of Galicia, and took it inland for burial at Santiago de Compostela.

Hello Jim Ed,

You must know that in the future, there will be clear boundaries for making contact with Janet and me, especially Janet. This is not to say there will be no further contacts with us, but it must be under a number of conditions.

Janet wanted to add her word before we set the conditions together. Here is her note to you:

Jim Ed,

I was more than a little disturbed by your visit on Wednesday. In the spirit of neighborliness and the Thanksgiving holiday coming up, I opened our house to you, even though I felt s bit uncomfortable doing so, especially in Bob?s absence.

We ironed out what you perceived to be a rejection on my part.

When you wanted to share the symbols that are meaningful to you, I was interested, although having a hard time ?getting it? in the way you told it to me. No input from me seemed to even get through to you, or matter at all.

I was very disturbed when you talked of your depression, thinking about getting your gun, and when you told me you are the ?Anti-Christ? and a ?crack-head? I began to be somewhat afraid of you and wished I had not opened my door to you.

When I told you I needed medications and even that didn?t stop your monologue, I said it again and began to leave the room. At that point you did thank me for listening and left, saying you would leave your stuff so you could come back. You either didn?t hear me or didn?t pay attention when I said, ?No, take them with you.?

Bob and I both feel we and our space were violated, and Bob has drawn up some conditions under which we may all co-exist as neighbors. I concur with what he has written below. Janet

The Conditions:
1. There can be no further non-negotiated visits on your part with either or both of us.
2. We are not available to participte in your theological doctrines
which you presented to Janet for more than one hour and fifteen minutes. You failed to leave our house until the second time Janet indicated she needed a break for medicines. You may not know that Janet has Parkinson's and extended stressful events activate her symptoms. Furthermore, Janet needed to take her
medicines and tried to bring your theological discourse to a close,
but you continued. Furthermore, you left your basket of possessions in
our house in order that you would have assurance of returning to our
house. That is far too presumptuous for us.
3. You do not have permission to enter our property or phone our house
unless you can abide by these limits.
4. We do not listen to religious talk from anyone, let alone invite
them into our home. We do not do that with you. We share our faith
with people who ask questions of us and our religious convictions. You
had no questions for Janet, only pressing her to agree with your
doctrine.

G. Robert Gary, Sr. ThD

Once had a little old white haired lady ask me:

"Doesn't it say in the bible one shouldn't cast pearls before swine?"

Do not know why she asked me that.  She knew I was gay.  She knew I was atheist.

Far as I'm concerned,  pearls are nothing more than strings of grits husbands purchase as gifts to pacify their wives.  Who perceives the value of pearls, a gift that must first be accepted, other than women?

Wouldn't surprise me at all, one had a predominately female audience when that statement was first made.

Good time to point out... "pigs" and "swine"... are gender neutral. With women wanting to believe all men are pigs; then by default, all women are pigs too. Who is it they think nurses and takes care of all them little piglets?

So...all James Edward Avery, DVM has to do:

Slap them string of grits on someones (George Robert Gary, Sr. ThD or Bob for short) pet pot belly pig then call the wife of that arrogant obtuse swine a SOW.

Can't help but wonder if Bob's aware his wife already confessed to me, in an email, she shows...HER FLEAS...to his children.  As we veterinarians can tell you:  if Janet has fleas...SO...does Bob.  But it's only God and I who knows they didn't get the fleas from their grandchildren, sweet little Henry or Georgia; or from even the dog.

GOD...laughed so hard that day I saw ... A BEAGLE ... being walked with Bob sailing close behind at the end of a leash not his.

Made me think of Charles Darwin on his way to the Galapagos Islands... and...what it might be like growing up with Bob and Janet equally head of household (or at least what Janet wants to believe); a joke one of their (rebellious?) children played on them.

Once told my mother during one of our many long distance phone calls between my home here in Atlanta and hers (also my childhood home) in Arkansas:

"If there is anyone in the bible I can relate to, it would have to be the wife of Lot's nephew; the one who turned into a pillar of salt upon having to leave behind all things familiar she ever knew and loved."

Isn't it possible, just possible, Bob and Janet have entertained and still are entertaining an angel unaware?  Surely they don't need the likes of me reminding them:

The higher up we go, the more difficult the tests becomes.

Truly agree with George Carlin:

"God is just a comedian playing before an audience afraid to laugh."

Simply Jim:
One Pearl,
Total Pig,
Anti-Christ.

As stuff put into our heads as kids never really go away,  have eighteen years of Methodism must do something with.  This is the best I can do.

Am not anti-Jesus; just believe he was nothing more than an good man with a big heart who found a clever way at being "thou artful dodger" with the language.

"Son's a sons until he gets him a wife.  Daughter's a daughter all her life."

Instead of claiming to be God when he claimed to be the "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost"; he was only claiming to be the sum of his parents in his father's absence.

Who cares who provided the "Y" chromosome for Mary's firstborn child.   That has always been and will always be Mary's and Joseph's secret.  It is their story and all of history leading up to that moment, and not just the life and death of Jesus alone, that became larger than life.

The quality of a good leader is one able to disappoint his own people at a rate they can absorb.  Would never have found an audience had he strayed too far from the teachings of his time.

It's time for another reset in the language today; and I believe the story of my life can be a catalyse for that change as I have absolutely no tribal loyalties at all.

But first...
I need a celebrity sponsor just to be heard.  I'm already a professional; unlike Jesus who found learned men and professionals to give up their jobs and follow him.

Jim Ed, you honor me to share yourself and your writing in this way. I feel a bit daunted by your trust in me. We really don't know each other that well. Salty language doesn't bother me in the least. I'm sorry you are feeling depressed. I have experienced that a lot of my life, but am better thanks to some good meds and good therapy! I have learned to accept myself more, "fleas and all."

I have read your blogs and found them quite interesting, a bit diaturbing, and mysterious. At the risk of being one of those "fools (who) rush in where angels fear to tread" I am going to respond to several parts of your writing, blog by blog.

1) Barrell of Monkeys: "Genesis" in reverse"

I'm not sure I understand this one completely except maybe to say the humans can evolve in reverse as well as forward from our ape beginnings Just my humble opinion!

You gave an example of how painful it is to share yourself with people at work who don't share your political views. The question is, does it really change anyone's mind when people have such opposite views? Isn't there something in the Bible about not casting one's pearls among swine?

It has been my experience that some people can hear my deepest musings and others cannot. I try to be selective, but I often find my mouth preceding my head! That does not usually turn out well. Only when I find someone who is open to differences can I really hear and be heard.

2) Pale Blue Dot

Carl Sagan is a wise man.

3) An Innocence lost.

Is that culte little boy you?

We mothers have to be taught by our sons and daughters who they really are, since we often see our children as projections of ourselves and try to make them into who we wish we could be. This is not fair to either one. I am trying now to really show my grown children who I am and get to know who they really are. It is a daunting task, but very rewarding!

4) "H" is for.....

In the alphabet, G comes before H--

Gratitude
Goodness
Giving
Growing
GOD

...and F comes before G

Forgiving (oneself and others)

HUMILITY is, indeed hard to come by.

POSTNOTE:

It is my belief that although each of us is unique--different from anyone else in the world--we are, as human beings, more alike that different--we all bleed, cry, laugh, hate, love, and need other people to hear and understand us. It is my life-long mission to try to see myself and others as God the Creator intended us to be, to judge less and to love more. I fall short more than not, but maintain hope.

Matthew 6:9 "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

Matthew 6:9

Our Father - God is called a Father,

1. as he is the Creator and the Great Parent of all;

2. the Preserver of the human family and the Provider for their wants, Matthew 5:45; Matthew 6:32;

3. in a special sense he is the Father of those who are adopted into his family; who put confidence in him; who are the true followers of Christ, and made heirs of life, Romans 8:14-17.

Hallowed be thy name - The word "hallowed" means to render or pronounce holy. God's name is essentially holy; and the meaning of this petition is, "Let thy name be celebrated, venerated, and esteemed as holy everywhere, and receive from all people proper honor." It is thus the expression of a wish or desire, on the part of the worshipper, that the name of God, or that God himself, should be held everywhere in proper veneration.

Genesis 6-9 NIV - Wickedness in the World - When human - Bible Gateway

6 When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with[a] humans forever, for they are mortal[b]; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.”

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them. ” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

Easter egg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pysanky, bearing the Paschal greeting in Ukranian "Christ is Risen!" This Easter egg is dyed red, as is done traditionally, in order to represent the blood of Christ.

Easter egg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Easter eggs are special eggs that are often given to celebrate Easter or springtime. Easter eggs are common during Eastertide as they symbolize the empty tomb of Jesus.  Though an egg appears to be like the stone of a tomb, a bird hatches from it with life; similarly, the Easter egg, for Christians, is a reminder that Jesus rose from the grave, and that those who believe will also experience eternal life.

The custom of the Easter egg originated amongst the early Christians of Mesopotamia, who stained eggs red in memory of the blood of Christ, shed at his crucifixion.  The Christian Church officially adopted the custom, regarding the eggs as a symbol of the resurrection; in A.D. 1610, Pope Paul V proclaimed the following prayer:

Bless, O Lord! we beseech thee, this thy creature of eggs, that it may become a wholesome sustenance to thy faithful servants, eating it in thankfulness to thee on account of the resurrection of the Lord.

In the system of Greek numerals it has a value of 200. When used at the end of a word, and the word is not all upper case, the final form (ς) is used, e.g. Ὀδυσσεύς (Odysseus) – note the two sigmas in the center of the name, and the word-final sigma at the end.

Cleaning Up Bad Communication Habits | United Church of Pittsford

Cleaning Up Bad Communication Habits | United Church of Pittsford: Of the several negative communication patterns congregations practice, three habits are particularly problematic: triangulation, pass-through communication, and anonymous feedback. While these three may be strategies for getting needs met, they all block rather than help healthy communication.

Relationship triangles usually involve three people who each take one of three roles: victim, persecutor, and rescuer. Once in a triangle, people change places among its three points. The only way to stop the triangulation is for each person to communicate his or her feelings, concerns, or opinions directly to the other. Of course, the best communication strategy is to avoid being recruited into a triangle in the first place. But so often well-intentioned faith leaders and congregants listen to another person’s concerns, feelings, or opinions, then realize they inadvertently let themselves be co-opted into involvement, sometimes even taking sides.

Once in a triangle, escape may take some courage and clarity but is possible. The triangulated person can redirect the other person straight to the appropriate individual or committee—the one actually involved in the personal issues or the one that can address the concern or mend the relationship. A three-way conversation sometimes helps, but only if the third party facilitates without taking sides or having an agenda, without speaking for one of the other parties, and without adding to the emotional drama.

The Associated Press: Who's the rich guy? Obama, Romney duel over status: Romney campaign spokeswoman Gail Gitcho said Obama was the "first president in history to openly campaign for re-election on a platform of higher taxes," and the Republican National Committee called the idea of higher taxes on millionaires a "political distraction" that would do little to cure the nation's debt problem.
Obama is pitching the "Buffett rule," named after billionaire investor Warren Buffett, which argues that wealthy taxpayers should not pay taxes at a lower rate than middle-class wage-earners. Obama has proposed that people earning at least $1 million annually — whether in salary or investments — should pay at least 30 percent of their income in taxes. Many wealthy people earn most of their income through investments, which is taxed at 15 percent, allowing them to pay a lower overall rate.

Don't step on the duck! (joke)?

Don't step on the duck! (joke)?

Three women die together in an accident
and go to heaven.

When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven: don't step on the ducks!"

So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one.

Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest man she ever saw.

St. Peter chains them together and says, "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!"

The next day, the second woman steps accidentally on a duck and along comes St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing. With him is another extremely ugly man. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first woman.

The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, is very, VERY careful where she steps.

She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on . very tall, long eyelashes, muscular, and thin.

St. Peter chains them together without saying a word.

The happy woman says, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?"

The guy says, "I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck!"

Theseus and the Layrinth

Theseus, a hero of Greek mythology, is best known for slaying a monster called the Minotaur. When Theseus entered the Labyrinth where the Minotaur lived, he took a ball of yarn to unwind and mark his route. Once he found the Minotaur and killed it, Theseus used the string to find his way out of the maze.

A Balanced and a Tragic Vision of Humankind - Dinis Guarda | Dinis Guarda

There is a fragile line between raw emotional intelligence and emotional competency. One kind of plays with an invisible fire, where the rules are rewritten by forces of education, tradition and vulnerability inside the wires of the brain cells, mirror neuron mind and its neuroscience factors.

What can one believe
... in the end...
is that we are in a body with limitation and in a mind with huge capacities but with powerful black holes.

And... one can...think...
about working with the flow of the river of the snap social decisions and the personal myths and fictions one constructs through the elements of culture, education and each own physical bodies.

Same thing said a different way...
“believes in the existence of inherent limitations and flaws in the way we think and act and requires an acknowledgement of this fact as a basis for any individual and collective action.”

The Tyger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

THE TYGER
(from Songs Of Experience)
By William Blake

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright

In the forests of the night,

What immortal hand or eye

Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies

Burnt the fire of thine eyes?

On what wings dare he aspire?

What the hand dare sieze the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art.

Could twist the sinews of thy heart?

And when thy heart began to beat,

What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?

In what furnace was thy brain?

What the anvil? what dread grasp

Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,

And watered heaven with their tears,

Did he smile his work to see?

Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright

In the forests of the night,

What immortal hand or eye

Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

1794

The Tyger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Most modern anthologies have kept Blake's choice of the archaic spelling "tyger". It was a common spelling of the word at the time but was already "slightly archaic"[3] when he wrote the poem; he spelled it as "tiger" elsewhere,[1] and many of his poetic effects "depended on subtle differences of punctuation and of spelling."[4] Thus, his choice of "tyger" has usually been interpreted as being for effect, perhaps to render an "exotic or alien quality of the beast",[5] or because it's not really about a "tiger" at all, but a metaphor.[1]
"The Tyger" is the sister poem to "The Lamb" (from "Songs of Innocence"), a reflection of similar ideas from a different perspective, but "The Lamb" focuses more on goodness than evil. "The Tyger" also presents a duality between aesthetic beauty and primal ferocity. The speaker wonders whether the hand that created "The Lamb" also created "The Tyger”.
